2014 Wrap Up - Grateful

Well there were times in 2014 that were so tough, I didn’t think I was going to make it. I nearly lost Hunter twice, I lost and gained 15kgs, struggled with finances, had a hell of a time of it at work, and stressed myself so much that I made myself sick, sick for over a month.

But caught up in all that stress and turmoil I found myself. I not only survived but I thrived, and in the end picked up a better job. I also started trusting again, and GREAT things happened. Hunter is still alive and well. And I met Jason. He lights up my life, he makes me want to be better. We went to Hawaii together, after only 2 months together and it was wonderful. Truly wonderful! And we are going again in under 6 weeks. I can’t believe it.

Bring on 2015 and all the adventures that come with it.

Reviewing Whole 30

I am disappointed I didn't follow through with my weekly recap, but I am so very proud of myself because I stuck to Whole 30 for the WHOLE 30 days.

I love the process. I truly do. I didn't find it too difficult. I did miss my coffee, and a few VERY stressy days had me thinking about a drink, but I held fast and made myself proud.

During week 3 My beautiful boy nearly died. He spent a week in hospital, touch and go for many days, but happily he is home and on the mend. Work too has been quite horrible and added to my stress levels, however I feel that I was better equipped to handle it because I was feeling so much clearer mentally. And I felt strong.

And what else did I gain (or lose) during my 30 days?
  • I lost 6 kgs
  • My waist went down 5cm
  • My hot flushes stopped completely
  • My period came back
  • My aching hips and knees stopped aching
  • My hair grew very fast and was much less greasy
  • My skin cleared up
  • I slept like a baby every night, all night
  • I have been cooking
  • I love grocery shopping especially for fruit & veges
  • And why did I not know about dates. Best food ever! But I have to cut back because I did get too excited with them.
So I have decided that I am going to stick to paleo eating. I am going to allow the occasional treat. And a coffee a day. Maybe. I will see how that goes. I may reduce that too.

Discipline, my One Word for 2014.

Hawaiian Dreams

I love Hawaii. Anyone who knows me knows I love Hawaii. Half of the artwork on my walls represents it. I even share my birthday with King Kamehameha celebrations. Over the last month I have had many dream about going back to Hawaii. And I am excited to share that I am going back this October. I am so excited. There is so much left to see & do.
Waterfalls, hiking trails, snorkelling,  and of course more shopping. I am coming back, sooner rather than later, and this time I am going on my on schedule so will see and do all the things I would like to. Like walk around Honolulu, see the entire island. More swimming, more sightseeing. Kauai? The big island? More fun!.

Whole 30

I decided to undertake the Whole 30 program to get control of my eating. Lately it has been more and more out of control, and the scales, my hair & skin are showing it. It's challenging, cutting out dairy, grains & sugar in one go, but I knew it was what I needed to do.It takes some preparation and some will power but it is definitely worth it.

Whole 30 - Day 0
I am overanalysing this process. It does not have to be difficult. In fact this is a very simple process. So my message to myself is this:-
“JFDI. Don’t wreck it by trying to be someone I’m not. Eat simple. Be prepared. And get ready to wow yourself. And is anyone else is wowed great. If not? Who cares? This is for me. What I eat is about me. Don’t let anyone get into my head. Just do it my way and success will come. Look out and enjoy the process…..”

Whole 30 – Day 1 - 17 June 2014
I AM EXHAUSTED. And starving all day. But I did not give in though I wanted to. Need to be better prepared. Tomorrow night I will prepare breakfasts. Didn’t get to tonight because of the exhaustion and the visit to the vets. Tomorrow is a new day.

Whole 30 – Day 2
Pounding headache. Woke up at 4am with it and still hurts. Detox sucks. Especially without coffee. So I didn’t go to work today.
6:30pm feeling better. Spent today very quietly. Sharon brought food over. Ate bigger meals and less snacks.

Whole 30 – Day 3
Felt better today. Did get a bad headache after lunch but I think that was the water not the food. Still have a dull ache at bedtime but will pop a Panadol.
Weigh in this morning was down 1.5kg. That’s much nicer than yesterday’s number! I think I got the amount of food right. And it was yummy. The mayo is awesome too.

Whole 30 – Day 4
Made the best lettuce fajitas. They were so delicious. Can’t wait for the energy to kick in.

Whole 30 – Day 5
Getting better today. Ate well, not as tired or headachy. Even did grocery shopping so I am half ready for next week. Now I will plan the week tomorrow and grab what is needed while I am out tomorrow shopping. Down 2kg this morning.

Whole 30 – Day 6
Well today was always going to be a challenge. I took myself shopping and literally wanted to hurt people drinking coffee and eating raisin toast. Not great!
But I got the kitchen more organised and a lot of out of date stuff out. Plus nearly all of the washing up is done.
Food today has been great. No GREAT!!! Breakfast was yummy chopped chorizo, mushroom and spinach omelette. Then Sharon invited me for a lamb roast lunch with lots of yummy grilled veggies and crushed fruit and soda water “cocktails.” And then dinner I had bbq chook with grilled sweet potato and salad with Whole 30 approved ranch dressing. YUM! And no headache today. Woohoo!

Whole 30 – Day 7
Went to the organic markets today. Wow. They were fun. So much diverse and super colourful heirloom veggies. I picked up some sweet potato – purple skin and white and purple flesh, and white skin with purple flesh. I also got yellow beetroot as well as regular. There was some amazing spinach too. Want to get some next time.
I had poached eggs for breakfast. Still trying to get that poacher to work properly, but it did boil eggs ok. Think it might be worth the investment to get the grown up version. Lunch I had meatloaf and canned tomatoes.
I prepared breakfast for the week. Baked eggs wrapped in bacon. YUM!
